International Women’s Self-Defense Day 2017

6th Annual fodada International Women’s Self-Defense Day Seminar 2017 at OCKMMA

“NOT TODAY” declared these powerful, confident women at the 6th Annual fodada International Women’s Self-Defense Day Seminar which was hosted right here at the OC Kickboxing & Mixed Martial Arts home in beautiful Irvine, California. We here at OC Kickboxing & Mixed Martial Arts are proud to be a part of this noble movement — raising awareness and empowering women.

International Women’s Self-Defense Day Seminars are not only held here in Southern California, but these seminars were held all across our great nation.  In fact, fodada has extended its reach beyond our shores and has powerfully created this movement and self-defense seminars are now being held around the globe — including self-defense seminars in Pakistan, India, Africa, and throughout Europe.

These worldwide seminars are designed to empower women; instill self-confidence; and. of course, teach basic self-defense techniques to women of all ages.  OC Kickboxing & Mixed Martial Arts took this concept even further – and taught 360 Degree Situational Awareness; taught/discussed the appropriate mind-set for both avoidance and combat; and utilized numerous martial arts to create a program remarkably suited to true self-defense.  In fact, the OC Kickboxing & Mixed Martial Arts Seminar had three stations for training:

Hands-On Self-Defense Training:

  1. Striking/Kickboxing — on 150 lb. heavy bags;
  2. Situational Ground Training, Grappling & BJJ — in the parking lot with male attackers; and
  3. Improvised Weapons Training.

OC Kickboxing & Mixed Martial Arts incorporated gnarly self-defense techniques (Coach Ricky Sexton); Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Professor & Resident Black-Belt Mohammad Bakhtiari; Coach Alex Baughman; and Coach Adrian Anorve); stricking/kickoxing (Kru Janice Phung & Coach Jenn Atwood); and even JKD/FMA (Coach Ricky Sexton; Coach John Arden; and Coach Bea Nguyen).

Our participants learned how to remain aware of their surrounding to ensure they never become entangled in an unsafe scenario.  They also learned the appropriate mind-set to not only portray an empowered, confident individual, but also the appropriate mind-set should combat become a necessity.  Finally, they learned real life and extremely effective skills designed not to defend against an attacker, but to actually attack the attacker!

OC Kickboxing & Mixed Martial Arts was further honored to have Under Sheriff Don Barnes make a surprise, guest appearance a the 6th Annual International Women’s Self-Defense Day 2017 Seminar. Under Sheriff Don Barnes talked to the powerful women about awareness, confidence and the importance of safety.

Thanks for droppin’ by Don — and good luck in the coming election!

These women worked hard, had fun and, most importantly, these women both mentally and physically prepared to defend themselves if necessary.  So … Predators Beware!
